COMMUNITY

I feel like community service has always played a huge part in my family. I was always raised to help and serve in the community. I was always there to help out someone who was less fortunate than me. I help out in my church, I love to help out in food pantries and soup kitchens, and even the little stuff. I help out at home and I love to volunteer for community service events at school. Even though I live in a place where you can tell right off the back that there is poverty, hunger, and homelessness, that doesn’t mean that there isn’t a wonderful sense of community. My community is so unique with all the different backgrounds and cultures. Since I have a very blessed life I feel inclined to help someone else out of a bad situation. In my mind, community service goes deeper than asking a person to sign a paper. It’s what you would do if you didn’t have to get a certain amount of credits or hours. Even though I do get my hours in, I also like to help people out just because. Volunteering is awesome because you don’t need to be paid to spread joy in the world. A famous quote states, “Volunteers aren’t paid, not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless.” When you help out someone in your community you are initially building it up. Albert Einstein once said, “Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile.”

Even if you haven’t done anything to help, today is always the best time to start. Even telling somebody a genuine compliment can make their day. It’s the little things that make the biggest impact. First start off with something small, and then next thing you know you might be traveling the world bringing happiness to people who need it. A quote by Winston Churchill is, “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” Nobody is inclined to receive your amazing vibes. If a person doesn’t want to accept your giving that is perfectly fine too. “If you are giving your all to someone and that isn’t enough, than you’re giving to the wrong person.” Not everyone is going to feel the same way about helping as you and that is OK. All that matters is what YOU do to help out people.

In conclusion, I hope this writing piece shows you the values of community service and that helping the community helps our world little by little. A really good quote I found was, “Work for a cause and not for applause. Work to express not impress.”

  1. Excellent piece of writing Sydney. I especially love the quotes you found. Maybe you could link the words ‘good quote’ to the actual website that shows lots of quotes.
